Robert J. Hopper, 78, Logansport, died at 5:49 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 9, 1932, in Logansport, he was the son of George C. and Florence May Knight Hopper. He was married Sept. 27, 1952, in Logansport, to Joan M. Gallaway.
Bob founded Hopper Development Inc. in 1970 and was an active participant in the business until he retired in 2001 after 31 years of service.
Mr. Hopper was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Tipton Masonic Lodge 33.
He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed collecting and restoring antique fishing reels. He also believed in helping those in need and made several donations to St. Judeâs and Riley Childrenâs Hospital and the Cass County Childrenâs Home.
Surviving are his wife, Joan M. Hopper, Logansport; sons, John Hopper and wife, Kacy, and Jason Hopper and wife, Katie, all of Logansport; grandchildren, Ryan Hopper, Lafayette, Caitlin Hopper, Ethan Hopper, Jacob Hopper, and Mallory, Addison, and Caroline Hopper, all of Logansport; brother, Harold Hopper and wife, Marcella, Logansport; and sisters, Ruth N. Lohrman and husband, Wayne, Peru, and Wanda C. Simpson and husband, Bob, Tazewell, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Gundrum Funeral Home with Father Clark Miller officiating.
Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
