Robert Mcmillen

Services for Robert H. McMillen, 92, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

He died at 7:43 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in Chase Center.

Born Aug. 6, 1916, in Logansport, he was the son of Chester and Blanche Herd McMillen. He was married July 4, 1940, in Delphi, to Opal I. Franklin, who preceded in death Dec. 14, 2000.

Robert retired as a conductor in 1979 after 43 years of service for the Conrail and Pennsylvania railroads.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and First United Methodist Church of Logansport. Robert graduated from Logansport High School in 1934, the year Logansport won the state basketball championship, and he was sports editor of the school newspaper. He belonged to Scout Troop 7 and became an Eagle Scout, serving as swimming and athletic instructor at Fletchers Lake and Camp Callahan. Robert spent vacation time traveling the United States with his wife and daughters. He has visited all 50 states and has been to Canada and Mexico. His hobbies included swimming, golf, fishing and watching sports. His greatest thrill was seeing Babe Ruth, in person, pitch for the Red Sox.

Surviving are daughters, Sandra Roberson, Logansport, and Judi Phillips, Peru; granddaughters, Michelle Baber and husband, Stephen, Peru, Debra Brown and husband, Kerry, Pendleton, and Laura Roberson, Indianapolis; grandson, Robert Phillips, Peru; six great-grandchildren, Reese Baber, Weston Baber, Brooklyn Baber and Brandon Phillips, all of Peru, and Cody and Kyle Brown, Pendleton.

The Rev. Bill Shannon will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
