Roberta B. Young Nelson Shaver, 95, Logansport, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 25, 1917 in Frankfort, Indiana, she was the daughter of Harold and Bertha (Kingery) Young. She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1936 and later attended Purdue University.

On June 27, 1951 in Logansport, she was married to Dolphus F. Nelson and had a son Donald. After her husband’s death on July 28, 1963, she was the owner of Nelson Screw Products of Logansport, Indiana. On May 16, 1969, she married Robert H. Shaver who died on March 10, 1992. This marriage gifted her two daughters, Sally and Cindy Shaver.

Roberta was a member and Past State Secretary of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), Union Congregational Church of Avon Park, Florida, Calvary Presbyterian Church in Logansport, Indiana, and the Golf Hammock Country Club, Sebring, Florida. She enjoyed playing golf, crafting, and watching sports on the television.

Surviving are daughters Sally (Jay) Risser, Logansport, Indiana, Cindy (Larry) Dixon, Lafayette, Indiana, and a son Donald (Jitka) Nelson, Logansport, Indiana; grandchildren: Shannon Hughes and children James, Keelyn and Ryan, Jeffery Risser and daughters Ashley (Jacob) Fiene and Haley, Kevin (Denice) Risser and children Brittney, Taylor and Jacob, Staff Sgt. Mathew (Tara) Risser – U.S.A.F. Guam, Bryan (Erin) Dixon and children Connor and Rileigh, Bradley (Christa) Dixon and children Bryce and Brooke, Russell D. (Jacqueline) Nelson, and Raymond Nelson; great-granddaughter Morgan Cumberland. There are also four nephews and four nieces surviving her death.

Also surviving are her sisters Ermina R. Williams, West Lafayette, Indiana, Mary Frances Mansfield, Lafayette, Indiana, and Joanne Haines, Orange Park, Florida.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15 at Gundrum Funeral Home. Rev. Douglas Mankell will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14 at the funeral home.

Roberta’s preference over flower bouquets is a donation to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
