Ronald M. Smith, 80, of Twelve Mile, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 in his residence.
Born December 31, 1937, in Logansport, IN to the late Dwight H. and Dorothy Fay (Yantis) Smith. On January 28, 1967 he married Mary Nell Masteller in Kewanna, IN, who survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kenneth D. (Sarah) Smith, Waverly, IA; two daughters, Karen L. (Jeffrey) Vittengl, Kirksville, MO; Kathryn S. (Buff) Dormeier, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Morgan and Sophie Smith, Molly and Laura Vittengl, Dessa and Kal Dormeier.
One sister, Judith C. Ott, and one infant brother, preceded in death.
Ron was a 1956 graduate of Metea High School and a 1960 graduate of Purdue University. Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a lifelong farmer. He served in the Indiana National Guard and held a private pilot’s license. He was a former board member of the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District and also the Cass County Extension. Ron’s faith in God was a guiding force in his life and he was a devout member of the Metea Baptist Church. He was a member of The Gideons International. He was an avid Purdue basketball and football fan. He was a member of the Purdue Club and a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Caston Comet fan.
A celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday July 11, 2018 in the Metea Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in the Metea Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday in the Metea Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Metea Baptist Church or The Gideons International.
