Services for Russell L. Louthain, 87, Logansport will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home. Graveside services, with full military rites, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
He died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, in Arbor-Millerâs Merry Manor, Logansport.
Born Sept. 27, 1921, in Twelve Mile, he was the son of Howard and Ethel M. Sherrard Louthain.
He retired in 1982 from Rockwell International after 42 years of service.
He was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post 60, life member of the VFW Post 3790, life member of the DAV, member and past Chief De Gare of Voiture 729 40 & 8, past commander of the 2nd District American Legion Department of Indiana, past northern vice commander of the American Legion Department of Indiana, past 2nd district Cheminot of 40 & 8 and past president of the Cass County Veterans Council. Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II who served with the 94th infantry in France. Russell also received the Purple Heart for being wounded during battle.
Surviving are companion, Dorothy Cox, Logansport; daughters, Penny Parmeter and husband, Mark, Logansport, Cynthia Artz, King of Prussia, Pa., Cherrie Lott and husband, Quitman, Bay Minette, Ala., Nancy Blish, Mobile, Ala., and Deanna Sellers, Mobile, Ala.; son, Thomas Louthain and wife, Denise, Dothan, Ala.; brothers, Raymond Louthain and wife, Mai, Pensacola, Fla., and Merrill Louthain and wife, Mary Alice, Darl Louthain, and Donnie Louthain and wife Carol, all of Logansport; sisters, Jane Andrews and husband, Art, Anderson, S.C., and Priscilla Frank and Sharon Carter, both of Rochester; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Louthain.
Pastor Bruce Russell will officiate.
Visitation, with honor guards present, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 60.
