Services for Samuel J. Shaff, 91, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, in WoodBridge Health Campus.
Born Feb. 7, 1917, in Cass County, he was the son of Carl L. and Mabel R. Jones Shaff. He was married June 25, 1939, in Claypool, to Lucile Jane Stewart, who survives.
He retired from the Conrail Railroad in 1977 as a yard conductor.
Sam was a member of Blue Ball Church, where he served as a deacon for several years and was a member of the United Transportation Union.
Sam was a 1935 graduate of Onward High School. Sam had also worked at the Onward Grain Elevator. Sam enjoyed working in his yard and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Also surviving are daughters, Judy Berlet and husband, Jack, Connie Small and husband, Bill, and Marcia Harness and husband, Jerry, all of Walton; sister, Dierdre Strube, Logansport; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Berlet and wife, Julie, Jill Murray and husband, Mark, Mark Small and wife, Lisa, and Tammy Small, all of Walton, Tracy Wolf, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Jennifer McAllister and husband, Lon, Katy, Texas, Jill Harness, San Antonio, Texas, Brian Wolf and wife, Deanna, Logansport, Bridget Harness, Indianapolis, and Carla Small, Walton; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Darin Small, one great-grandchild, Samuel Berlet, two brothers, Don Shaff and Carl Frances Shaff, and one sister, Geraldine Cook.
Pastor Jerry Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
