Services for Selmar E. Chapman, 80, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, in his residence.
Born May 11, 1927, in Logansport, he was the son of Thelmer and Edith Harner Chapman. He was married July 9, 1948, in Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church in Logansport to Doris E. Waters, who survives.
He retired in 1974 from the Logansport Police Department after 20 years of service. Selmar was a former pastor at Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a former Logansport street superintendent from 1980 to 1983, former district superintendent for the state highway department and had retired from Engineering Aggregates Corp. in 1993.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Logansport FOP. Selmar was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. He served on the Lewis Cass School Board from 1972 to 1976. Selmar served many years as a football and baseball official in Logansport and the surrounding areas.
Also surviving are sons, Brian T. Chapman and wife, Kim, Carmel, and Benjamin F. Chapman and wife, LaCinda, Kokomo; and grandchildren, Erin Chapman, Lauren Chapman and Jacob Chapman, and Sabra Wilson and husband, Chris.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Carl and Bill Chapman, and three sisters, Margaret Chapman, Betty Finnegan and Dorothy Edwards.
Pastor Tim Berlin will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
