Shelby J. Ridenour, 88, of Logansport, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, November18, 2024, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born on September 10, 1936, in Walton, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer H. and Mary Alice (Helvie) Burrous, who shaped her warm heartand steadfast devotion to family and friends .On September 9, 1956, Shelby married the love of her life, James H. Ridenour, in Walton, Indiana. Their marriage was a testament to love, laughter, and unwavering partnership, creating a lifetime of beautiful memories until James’ passing on December 19, 1997.
A proud public servant, Shelby dedicated her professional life to her community, retiring as the Township Assessor for Cass County. Her deep faith guided her throughout her life, and she was an active and cherished member of the Methodist Church. Shelby’s kindness and steady spirit were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Shelby was a one-of-a-kind woman, known for her big heart and an even bigger love for life. Whether she was cheering on her beloved Purdue Boilermakers (Boiler Up!) or rooting for the Berries, as a coach’s wife or mother, Shelby’s zest for life and joy in her teams were contagious .Above all, her family was her greatest treasure, and the memories she created with them will be cherished forever.
Shelby leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her son, Scott (Brenda) Ridenour of Boerne, Texas; her spirited sisters, Melody Shaffer of Concord, New Hampshire, and Joetta Burrous of Warsaw, Indiana; and her four grandchildren, each of whom she adored: Lauren (Chad) Reid of Boerne, Texas; Evan Ridenour of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Kyle Ridenour of Laramie, Wyoming; and Logan Ridenour of Orlando, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her son, Steven H. Ridenour.
A celebration of Shelby’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Gundrum Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Vernon officiating. Friends and family are welcome to gather for visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m., prior to the service. A private burial will follow at Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Though Shelby is no longer with us, her laughter, joy, and love will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. She wouldn’t want us to dwell on sadness but to celebrate the good times, carry her warmth forward, and live with the same zest for life that she always did.
