Walter "Walt" Downham

Walter “Walt” L. Downham, 89, of Logansport, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born on November 2, 1929 in Cass County, Indiana, he is the son to the late Earl A. and Lillie (Thomas) Downham.  On May 6, 1952 in the Faith Lutheran Church, he married Merita Mace who preceded in death on January 6, 2001.  In 2005 at the Faith Lutheran Church, he and LouAnn Starkey were joined together in a religious ceremony, she also preceded him in death.

When Walt was younger, he enjoyed operating heavy equipment and working as a telegraph operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad before becoming a lifelong farmer.  He was a United States Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 60. Walt enjoyed attending auctions on his endless quests of treasures that nobody else wanted. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the Cass County Amateur Radio Club.

Surviving is a son, Michael L. (Lisa) Downham of Logansport, IN; daughter, Lisa M. (Matt) McClain of Logansport, IN; daughter in law, Amy  Downham of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Anna Kerr of Indianapolis, IN; three grandsons, Joshua (Marisa Brugh) Gillum of Logansport, Morgen (Shelly) Benner of Lafayette, IN, Aaron Benner of Logansport, IN; Three Great grandsons, Ethen Luna of Logansport, IN, Garret Benner of Lafayette, IN, Merritt Gillum of Logansport, IN; Brother in law, William Mace of San Antonio, TX; sister in law, Marilyn Bennett of Tucson, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven E. Downham, brother, John T. Downham, sister, Irene Sinn, sister, Clarice McCloskey, brother, Charles Downham.

A funeral service for Walt will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Marissa Harrison officiating.  Burial with Military Rites will follow in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service at Faith Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church.
