William Dale “Hooker” Pottenger, 85, Macy, died at 5:03 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, in Chase Center.

Born April 5, 1925, in Miami County, he was the son of Charles and Marie Clingenpeel Pottenger.

He retired from Exide Battery Corporation.

He was a member of Perrysburg Baptist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and was a member of the Rochester American Legion, Kewanna VFW and Peru Moose Lodge.

Surviving are daughter, Glenna Youngblood and husband, Ron, Peru; son, Dan Pottenger and wife, Elaine, Logansport; sisters, Margaret Blackburn, Logansport, and Ethel Hyjeck, Connecticut; brothers, Marvin Pottenger and wife, Barb, Denver, and Paul Edward Pottenger and wife, Mary, Rochester; grandson, Aaron Youngblood and wife, Debi, Marseilles, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Max and Madison Youngblood, Marseilles, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Orpurt.

As per Hook’s request, services will be private and there will be no visitation.

Gundrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
