William “Bill” M. Johnston Sr., 81 of Logansport, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born on October 9, 1935 in Cass County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Evelyn (Funk) Johnston. On March 4, 1956 in Young America, Indiana he married Betty Jo Groninger who preceded in death on July 1, 2005.
Bill was a 1953 graduate of Twelve Mile High School. He retired from Essroc Cement Plant after working there for over 40 years and was a part time farmer in his younger years. Bill enjoyed his vacation trips to Florida, walking on the beach, and driving through the country admiring the farm ground. He was a regular in the morning at the local Bull Shippers. Bill enjoyed the Bears, Pacers, and IU Basketball, he especially enjoyed watching the Cubs with his grandchildren, as they won the world series this year. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving are two sons, William M. Johnston Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Peru; Ward Scott Johnston and his wife Selena, Rochester; brother, Neil Johnston, Rochester; sister in laws, Jean Shepherd and Nancy (Ronnie) Grable, both of Logansport; grandchildren, Becky Johnston, Stephanie Marbach, Alicia Johnston and Fiance Derek Sadler, William Wesley Johnston and Harry Blake Johnston; great grandchildren, Cory Smith, Ezra Bellanca, Austin Marbach and Grace Utter; great great grandson, Cory Smith Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Johnston.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2017 in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, February 10, also in the funeral home.
