William "Bill" Platt

William Charles “Bill” Platt, 80, of Logansport, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 in Logansport.

Born on July 19, 1939 in Logansport, he is the son to the late Bernell “Bud” Platt and Opal (Cart) Platt.  On September 13, 1968 in Logansport, he married Janet A. Davis who survives.

Bill graduated from Logansport High School in 1957. He played baseball in high school and was drafted by the Milwaukee Braves, but instead of playing, enlisted in the United States Army where he served for six years. Bill also played softball at Riverside Park for many years.

While in Logansport, Bill worked for Louisville Cement Company which was Essroc when he retired in 2000. He also stayed involved with youth athletics. He coached the Columbia Middle School basketball and football teams for 20 years. He also coached several little league and Babe Ruth teams.

Upon retirement Bill and Janet enjoyed 18 years of living and playing golf at Cypress Lakes in Lakeland, FL.

Surviving along with his wife Janet, are two sons, Brad (Heather) Platt of Logansport, IN, Barry Platt of Granger, IN; three daughters, Tami Phillips (Matt) Long of Elkhart, IN; Teri Phillips West of Mooresville, IN; Dawna Phillips Montgomery of Mooresville, IN; sister, Mary Platt (Larry) Leffert of Logansport, IN; brother, Joseph (Barbara) Platt of Arlington, TN; two granddaughters, Ashley (Josh) Evans of Durham, NC, Kelley Platt of Logansport, IN; three grandsons, Aaron (Mallory) Long of Richmond, Virginia, Charlie Platt of Granger, IN, Tucker Platt of Logansport, IN; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Gundrum Funeral Home & Crematory.

Memorials may be made in memory of Bill to the Logansport High School Baseball Team, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
